A ROYAL LYCEUM THEATRE COMPANY PRODUCTION
Written & Performed by Karine Polwart, Dramaturgy by David Greig & Liam Hurley Directed by Wils Wilson
Multiple award-winning musician and singer-songwriter, Karine Polwart opens the 2017 Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival with her stunning solo show Wind Resistance; the sellout hit of 2016’s Edinburgh International Festival and this year’s Celtic Connections.
Every autumn, two and a half thousand pink-footed geese fly from Greenland to winter at Fala Flow, a protected peat-bog south-east of Edinburgh. From this windy plateau, Karine surveys the surrounding landscape through history, song, bird-lore, and personal memoir. Ideas of sanctuary, maternity, goose skeins, Scottish football legend, and medieval medicine all take flight in this compelling combination of story and song.
“A blissful tapestry of images and moving tales, propelled by Polwart’s heavenly voice” ★★★★★ The List
“A poignant, unflinching and beautiful show about healing, protection, the fragility of human life and the world around us. Its music will resonate for a long time” ★★★★★ The Telegraph
‘A thing of beauty and understanding’ ★★★★★ The Stage
