Baba Yaga is a deliciously engaging show for children aged 7 to 12 years and families. A hilarious, musical retelling of an old Russian folktale

“It is a magical and mischievous delight; combining simple storytelling with lush and inventive images.” on Cinderella

“The story is simply enchanting, the pacing is deft and Johnston’s vocal feats a marvel.” Sydney Morning Herald on Fluff

The World Premiere children’s show Baba Yaga comes to Langholm as part of the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival on tour programme.

This uproarious new show for children and families was created and is performed by a team of unique and celebrated artists from opposite ends of the globe –Scotland’s Shona Reppe (The Curious Scrapbook of Josephine Bean), and Australia’s Christine Johnston (Fluff) and Rosemary Myers (Girl Asleep).

Baba Yaga tells the story of Vaselina – a receptionist working in a very tall apartment block. But all that changes when she is forced to confront a terrifying resident who plays her music far too loudly and eats jelly babies with her mouth open.

Festival Director, Noel Jordan, said: “The combination of Shona Reppe, Christine Johnston and Rosemary Myers is thrilling. These are some of the best female artists creating work for young people today and Baba Yaga is a wonderful new collaboration full of humour and intrigue, guaranteed to inspire and entertain young minds.”

Baba Yaga was commissioned by Imaginate (Scotland) and Windmill Theatre Co (Australia) and is supported by the Scottish Government’s Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund.
